She is a teaching artist at Orchestra of St. Luke’s, BAM, City Lore, and Arts Connection, and was the Education Director at Amas Musical Theatre, and Curriculum Director for the Boston Music Education Collaborative. Down is part of an Arts in Residency program at a private school in Manhattan where she has led Sound Painting workshops, facilitated an after-school ukulele club. She has taught improvisation workshops throughout Europe, including Kosovo, Macedonia, and Croatia, as well as in South Africa and Ecuador.

Sound Painting is a workshop and conducting language devised by composer and musician, Walter Thompson. Artist Katie Down will introduce participants to this gestural language used to direct group improvisations. Together participants will experiment with movement, sound and imagery in a safe and socially-distant space on The Watermill Center’s South Lawn. Sound Painting is fun, easy to learn, and has been taught all over the world with refugees, differently abled populations, seniors, and children of all ages.

Admission is free. Advanced registration is required to limit the number of guests on-site. Space is limited.
The Sound Painting Workshop is recommended for children ages six and up, who must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
