In Memorium: Andre Gingras

The Watermill family mourns the loss of André Gingras who we lost to cancer on February 17, 2013 at the age of 46. Andre came to Watermill for the first time in 1996 to work on T.S.E. with Bob. He continued his collaboration with Watermill Artists and Robert Wilson, coming to Watermill's International Summer Program regularly, and collaborating on such projects as The Days Before, Prometheus, 70 Angels on the Facade, and Relative Light among others. In 1999 he began his work as choreographer in the Netherlands. When he joined the company, Dance Works Rotterdam in 2010 it led to a new phase in their artistic direction.

In 2010, Andre came back to Watermill as a Spring Resident Artist and developed his piece, Ready Made Dance, a response to Duchamp's famous readymades. He collaborated on the work with his good friend Sue Jane Stoker who acted as the dramaturg for the piece. Gingras and Stoker used found movements from boxing as the basis of a new choreographic language.
