On June 3, Tereza Velikova will present a video installation of newly created moving images inspired by the architecture of the Watermill Center. The work shown will include what she has created in residence at Watermill as well as work created prior to the residency. Velikova’s new work is an exploration of a new space through looped moving images involving a foot in unnatural positions throughout the Watermill Center. The work created prior to her residency focused on her interest in how sound determines the viewers’ perception of the visual image by creating a dialog between the two. The work created at Watermill is also about a dialog, but one between the visual image and space.

The final result of the work will be an autonomous, self-contained piece which will include constantly developing video-images. Velikova’s interaction with the architecture of Watermill as well as artists and staff at the Center will greatly inform the work.

Immediately following please join us at 7:30 for Phoebe Hoban, who will be reading and signing her book Alice Neel : The Art of Not Sitting Pretty.
