The Web and the Ladder
Water Mill, New York
Lois Farfel Stark has produced documentary films for NBC News in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Cuba, Northern Ireland and throughout the USA. She has also produced documentaries on architecture, medical research, artists, and civic issues. She has served on the Boards of Sarah Lawrence College, Alley Theatre, Texas Commission on the Arts, Humanities Texas, the Harry Ransom Center, and the Joseph Campbell Foundation, among other institutions in health, education, and civic concerns.
Stark's talk, "The Web And the Ladder," traces the shape of thinking through time, from migratory man's connected Web worldview, to settled humans' linear, hierarchical Ladder worldview, to today's time of spiraling change held in a Helix. Her talk is a visual, fast-forward ride through the way humans shape their shelters, sacred stories, and social system.
