Recent resident artist Kristen Foote presents her dance program to the public in an open rehearsal for “The History of Her“. This project explores the scope of femininity in modern dance through various solo roles created by different generations of choreographers, each considered “avant-garde” in their time.
The program develops through generations of works beginning with an older historical work by Isadora Duncan, through generations of formative works by Jose Limón, a long awaited revival by Lar Lubovitch and a new commission created by John Heginbotham.

In addition to the personal impact on Foote’s artistry, each of the choreographers selected has captured the social, political, cultural or aesthetic influences of their time. Placed together on the program, they map an evolution of the female role, the development of contemporary modern dance, and compose a representation of Foote’s own dance lineage.

“The History of Her” will premiere this June in Europe and as part of Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival’s Inside/Out Series on August 26
