The Wet Weather Ensemble will perform a 40 minute showing of their fledgling theatre piece Bird Boy at The Watermill Center on Saturday, February 25. Inspired by the true story of a 7 year old Russian boy who was raised in an aviary by his mother, the ensemble has been experimenting with bird calls, caged environments, mask work, video portraits and puppetry of household objects.

Fluttering hearts and beating wings, feathered friends and unfulfilled dreams, here a boy is raised by birds and a woman who sings without any words. One Hit Wanda lives in a disheveled one bedroom apartment with her one son and one hundred birds. Nightly she sings for her caged fans, blissfully reliving her former glory.

In this sea of seeds and beaks, nests her son Nameless, all clawed and un-adored, all feathered and un-friended. But when Wanda performs her swan-song, Nameless is free to discover what lies beyond the bird feed…

About The Wet Weather Ensemble

Award winning, Australian theatre makers The Wet Weather Ensemble peel back the paper-thin walls between the everyday and the somewhere else. Consisting of six performers: Ian Sinclair, Moya Thomas, Alicia Osyka, St John Cowcher, Rohan Harnett and Moana Lutton. They are a mixed bag of writers, singers, puppeteers, visual and electronic artists who work in a collaborative and seriously playful manner. Previous shows reflect the troupe’s love of found objects, food puppetry, beautiful messes and colorful dresses. Breakneck text, whimsical visuals and original music build a landscape of the mundane neighboured with the imagined. The urban and the unexpected.

This project is supported by The Australia Council for the Arts and Propel Youth Arts WA, Jump National Mentoring Program for Young and Emerging Artists.
