Watermill aims to be a focal point for a growing network of like-minded institutions to offer its residents opportunities to further grow and present their work and practice.
In addition to supporting the artists while in residence, Watermill acts as a liaison between artists and leading institutions and festivals. Following its first year under the auspices of an international selection panel, The Watermill Center was asked to curate a section of the New Island Festival on Governors Island in New York (September 2009), where we showcased four performance-based residency artists from Seattle, New York, Ireland, South Korea, and Colombia. For the current year, one of our residencies, GIRLMACHINE, was nominated by New York Magazine as the Best of PERFORMA 09 and is now securing performances in Moscow and Paris. Another residency is now featured on ARTonAIR, while others boast future performances and exhibitions in Berlin, Dublin, and NYC.
Watermill also features a Facebook page for alumni to present their work and is also developing an online network through its website for alumni and partners of the Residency and International Summer Programs. Watermill’s staff and collaborators have always supported artists through its unique database, linking risk-taking, emerging artists with venues and institutions that support the avant-garde of the future.
