During her residency, actress Kate Mueth thoroughly investigates the full stream-of-consciousness soliloquy given by Molly Bloom at the very end of James Joyce’s Ulysses, and works new scenes with Director Margot Lewitin and Dramaturge Ronnie Geist, both of New York’s Women’s Interart Center. In In the Room with Molly Bloom, a poetic piece of Irish writing, Mueth gives voice to Bloom, a bawdy, deeply desiring, and forthright woman married to the book’s protagonist, Leopold Bloom. Originally banned upon its publication in 1922 for being pornographic, Ulysses gained massive readership, and in 1999, was honored by the Modern Library in the number one slot for its list of top 100 English language novels of the 20th century.
