ANU Productions (key speakers)
This performance group comes from Dublin, Ireland, where they are working on a new production. The members of the group have worked with young people in Dublin using a myriad of creative multi-media and site-specific pieces, many supported by the Arts Council as community programs. They will be sharing some of the video documentation of performance pieces they have created with young people using non-traditional theater approaches.
Watermill Program Director Sherry Dobbin will discuss two workshops available:
Andreas Hirsch (Germany): TreeSpeedIsland
In residence: March 10–April 5, 2010
Andreas Hirsch, aka TreeSpeedMusic, is a Cologne-based musician and visual artist. He comes to Watermill with his own peculiar instrument that he has been developing: the Palmonica, an electrified palm tree leaf that produces sounds akin to the thumb piano’s. During this time, he will hold a workshop for 10-12 year olds in which they create and build their own instruments.
Andre Gingras (Canada/Holland): Readymade Dance
In residence: May–June 2010
In Readymade Dance, choreographer Andre Gingras and dramaturge Sue Jane Stoker will be creating a piece that uses found movements from boxing matches and sport as the basis for choreography. During their residency, they would like to hold workshop(s) with middle and high school students to create mini-performances.
