The Watermill Center partners with LEIMAY, Brooklyn based arts collective and producing organization, to present a demonstration and conversation about the current work of the Open Program of the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards. Hailing from Pontedera, Italy, the Open Program’s 8 international artists invite us to discover and explore their invigorating practice, and to learn about their current objectives and activities in New York. Led by Mario Biagini, the work of the Open Program aims to re-discover the very nucleus of theatre: the moment of meaningful contact between human beings.
The evening will include a talk by director Mario Biagini, who has been with the Workcenter for over 20 years and a demonstration of the work of the Open Program based on Electric Party Songs, a work that arose from an investigation of Allen Ginsberg’s poetry. Poems are woven through traditional songs and shouts from the southern United States, as well as original pieces. Audience will have the opportunity to ask questions, to participate during the demonstration and sing along with the company.
The company features artists from all over the world, including Lloyd Bricken (USA), Robin Gentien (France), Agnieszka Kazimierska (Poland), Felicita Marcelli (Italy), Ophelie Maxo (France), Alejandro Tomás Rodriguez (Argentina), Graziele Sena (Brazil) and Suellen Serrat (Brazil). Director Mario Biangini (Italy) has toured this company internationally most recently to including China, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, and the USA.
This evening is presented in partnership with LEIMAY: The organization and artistic duo behind the Ludus Training Program and the SOAK festival at CAVE in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. LEIMAY activities related to the Ludus Training Program are supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
