The Watermill Center invites you to a new program initiative, Saturdays @ WMC that focuses on unique ways to interact with The Watermill Center grounds, collection, studios and kitchen. On Saturday, June 22 from 12pm-3pm the Center is hosting local artists to lead workshops inspired by everything the Center has to offer.

Schedule of Events
12pm-1pm: Yoga class with Geoffrey Nimmer in the Large Studio  Click HERE to make a reservation.

12pm-12:30pm: Free tour of the Grounds

12:30pm-3pm: Creating Robert Wilson’s Collection with Andrea Cote
Participants will create shadow puppets inspired by figures in The Watermill Collection and Robert Wilson’s theatrical productions. Playing with shadow and light and color, this project for all ages will culminate in an illuminated staged tableau.

1pm-2pm: Presentation by Mary Woltz of Bees Needs
Mary Woltz will discuss basic biology of the honey bee and a description of her many and varied activities, a discussion and sampling of products of the hive and some of the challenges facing this vitally important insect.  She will also let us take a peek into her truck for a “behind the scenes” look into the daily life of a beekeeper.

1pm-3pm: Found Sound Nation will set up a mobile “Street Studio” to engage passersby in the spontaneous, collaborative production of original music. With a simple setup—laptop, mics, midi controllers, and speakers—they will lead a music creation session that is completely improvised. Part concert, part recording session, part jam, the street studio is like a window into the musical collective unconscious of a place. Afterwards, the recorded music is produced into sets of songs that are sent to all who participated and shared online.

2pm-3pm: Free tour of the Building. Click HERE to make a reservation.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Andrea Cote is a multi-media artist living on the East End. Locally, she has presented her work at The Islip Museum, Art Sites, Neoteric Gallery, Dowling College, and a performance at the Jackson Pollock Centennial Celebration. She has an upcoming community public art project for downtown Riverhead, “Eyes on Main Street,” coming this summer.

Geoffrey Nimmer has been teaching yoga in the Hamptons for the past 10 years. He originally came to the practice of yoga as a modern dancer in NYC.  He began practicing at the Jivamukti studio while continuing his dance career. His studies continued at the Iyengar institute with Mary Dunn and James Murphy and in 2007 he became a devotee of Ashtanga yoga, which he now practices daily. Mr. Nimmer brings his love of movement and understanding of the body to all of his teaching.

Mary Woltz is owner/beekeeper of Bees’ Needs, a small apiary on Long Island’s East End, that includes 14 different locations for her hives, from North Sea to Amagansett. Mary first studied beekeeping at the Pfeiffer Center, a biodynamic research and training center in Chestnut Ridge, NY, where she assisted Gunther Hauk for just over a year before moving to Long Island in 2003.  Her efforts today are to create a viable business model that keeps the bees’ needs first.  Her honey is available at the Sag Harbor Farmers’ Market, and at many farmstands and shops throughout the East End.

Found Sound Nation (FSN) is an eclectic group of artists who have a strong sense of social engagement. The work of FSN uses the expressive power of music, audio, and video production to give voice to underrepresented communities, unlock the creative potential of youth, and build bridges between communities separated by cultures, economic disparities, and geography. FSN recently partnered with the U.S. State Department to produce OneBeat, a music residency and tour program that brings together musicians from around the world.
