Dear Friends of Bob Wilson and the Watermill Center,
As this long winter is finally entering the fifth and last act, we want to invite you along for a very special trip to Italy’s Spoleto and Prague from June 23rd through June 29th. The trip will be crafted around two premieres of Bob’s, with time to enjoy some of Europe’s most beautiful cities and spend quality time with Bob. His production of SHAKESPEARE’S SONNETS with the stunning cast of the Berliner Ensemble will premiere on June 25th in Umbria’s most beautiful city as part of the world-famous Spoleto Festival. Bob has teamed up with singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright to create a truly poetic-musicalgesamtkunstwerk that excites critics and audiences alike. The German press writes “Wilson achieves something miraculous,” “a dreamlike Shakespeare revue set to music by a pop musician,” and “Wilson selected 24 of Shakespeare’s Sonnets and put them into fantastic images hovering between night and dream.”
On the 26th of June, Bob’s new production of Janacek’s masterpiece KATYA KABANOVA world premieres at the beautiful National Theater in Prague. Janacek’s score is one of the most haunting operas ever written and the pinnacle of his attempt to put the natural melody of speech into music. We will spend three memorable days in Rome and Spoleto, and the surrounding picturesque landscape, and two days in Prague. Spoleto is one of Italy’s oldest cities dating back to 200 BC and its festival, founded by Giancarlo Menotti, was and is a meeting place for the world’s most renowned artists in an extremely private and intimate setting. Prague is simply one of Europe’s most breathtaking cities, with outstanding examples of medieval, gothic, baroque, and especially Jugendstil architecture and an extremely rich heritage in the arts, ranging from Mozart, Beethoven, and Kafka to the important avant-garde.
For more detailed information of all of the exciting and exclusive events, please download the trip itinerary attached below. Our last trip to Paris and Milan left a lasting impression on all of its participants and sold out very quickly. We have limited the total number of people again to 25 in order to provide the highest quality experience for all who attend. Some of our patrons from the last trip have already signed up. Join us on this pilgrimage to Shakespeare and Janacek’s worlds of love, desire, and dreams to support the work of the Watermill Center.
Warm regards,
Jörn Weisbrodt
